CHIRAPUT "TEAY" SAMOUM

"My work is predominantly personalised bespoke artwork, featuring oil colour and watercolour paintings, as well as pencil and pastel drawings. While in Thailand, this work focused on uniquely style portraits which appealed to customers from around the country; being able to provide my customers with their very own unique art piece from Art by Teay proved hugely rewarding and satisfying.

Since moving to South Africa, my artwork has taken a turn to exhibiting our beautiful wildlife. Since I was young, I have always grown up and been involved with caring for animals, particularly domestic animals, which are often neglected in rural areas of Thailand. After moving to South Africa, I have continued to educate myself on the importance of healthy wildlife and biodiversity. Remarkably, despite our destruction, our wildlife is still fighting and adapting to survive.

My artwork, which predominantly uses oil colour as a medium, is here to show, in plain sight, the immense power and vulnerability of our beautiful and rare animals, especially those being hunted for recreation and sport. In doing so, I hope to evoke the same sentiments of compassion and empathy I have for animals and in turn the realisation of a world where humans and wildlife can co-exist. Also, I hope my artwork can play a role, in whatever small part, in supporting campaigns against hunting.

I want to explore the world and all that is different from my home country. Before moving to South Africa at the age of 27 years, I had never left Thailand and I am excited about this new journey. I am eager to improve my English, and learn other languages and cultures, as well as share my own culture and experiences and I hope to do so through art. I am passionate about teaching art and working with children and I hope to encourage others to use art as an expression of themselves, for calmness and clarity of heart and mind, and muscle development and coordination."
