Francois Viljoen is a South African born artist, now living in Germany.
As a young boy his favourite mediums were graphics and sculpture. Today Francois paints in oil, and acrylic, and sculpts with ceramic, plasticine clay and plaster, casting in bronze and resin.
Francois' Bronze Bowl collection is inspired by ancient rituals, among them the “Singing Bowls” of Tibet, Japan and Nepal. Bronze bowls used during the Ming Dynasty, ancient Greece, Roman Empire including Egyptian motives (1849) found in northern Iraq also intrigue him. Viljoen’s own Bronze Bowl/Vessel Collection reflects his love of animals, each with its own story and design.
His bowls are cast using the “lost wax casting method”.
Francois has in the past been influenced by "Romanticism' and "Symbolism'.
