"Renewal" the artists perspective:

When a pleasing coiled and burnished vessel breaks in the pit, there is a moment to consider the value of repair and restoration. When the ping of breakage sounded in the pit fire that moment arrived.

Through holes drilled in the body of this vessel the slow process of restoration began. Like a jigsaw puzzle each piece fitting into the next. The space and time it took to pick up the pieces and mend this pot feels symbolic to me in this time of covid-19.

The fragments are weaved together with hand made clay beads and copper wire. Once polished the effects of the pit fire are seen on the outside of the vessel.

FYI The holes were made using a tile drill bit: the bit has a triangular point. I learnt to use a small size first. Because of the trial and error with drill bits the inside of the vessel is completed with Jovi, air-drying clay, and Scioto cold glaze.
