"I lived and worked for many years in Vancouver, Canada, for me one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Every morning on my way to work I was in awe of my surroundings; rain, snow or sunshine. During my early years there I visualized myself as an artist creating these beautiful scenes on canvas.

The door to the art world opened unexpectedly when I supported a friend by attending art therapy with her at the Cancer Hospital. Shortly thereafter I began my first formal art lessons with a Dutch-Canadian artist, Jeanne Krabbendam. I explored watercolours, mixed media, and acrylics and much later I changed to oils, my favourite medium.

I am honoured to say that I took workshops from highly acclaimed artists in Canada. One of my highlights was the two years I spent in an Art Mentoring Program at the Holland /Croft studio in North Vancouver (artists Kiff Holland and Dene Croft).

In the year of 2009 I joined a week long plein-air painting workshop on the West Coast of Canada. My teacher, John Stuart Pryce, (Artist Honorary Signature Member of International Plein Air Painters Organization WORLDWIDE), taught me how to see colours, shapes and forms in nature which enriched my mind and ideas in such a way that I think one life time is not enough to paint all I see and experience.

In 2010, I joined a weekend workshop with Sarah Kidner (a Signature Member of Federation of Canadian Artists), who inspired me not to be scared to use a warm, rich colour palette.

In 2009, I organized an Art Cruise to Alaska, the first time ever on one of Royal Caribbean luxury cruise ships. We were 15 artists with one art teacher. We explored the beauty of Alaska in the mornings and afternoons on board the ship we painted in a conference room especially converted into a studio for us. Since then, art cruises became popular in Europe and North America.

I am privileged to say that some of my paintings can be found in homes in Canada, New Zealand, Holland and South Africa. Creating art is an ongoing growing journey." - Louisa Loots
