Born in England in 1959

Paul lives between Cape Town and London. He studied painting at Wimbledon School of Art (London) and Deli School of Art (India), receiving a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting.

The body of abstract work he is exhibiting has developed over a number of years. He has always had a love of bright vibrant colours and finds placing them together in a painting a challenging exercise.

“I try to keep the painting vibrant and fresh,” he says. Mentioning his time in India, he says:”Artists in India have a different sense of colour that I find inspiring and useful in my own work.”

He achieves this using a process called Hinterglasmalerei (painting in reverse). This technique developed in different areas of the world independantly and has been practised in Germany around a small town called Murnau, In China and India, and of course South Africa. Paul uses this technique on Perspex.
