Tracy Payne was born in 1965 and lives in Cape Town. She graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT in 1987 with an honours degree in painting.
Payne has worked form various studios in Cape Town, as well as in Johannesburg and abroad from time to time. Presently she divides her time between painting and teaching art from her studio in Woodstock.
Over the years Payne has participated in numerous group exhibitions. Her debut exhibition Introducing: Brice, Smith and Payne, was held at the UCT Irma Stern Museum in 1989. She held her first solo exhibition Hush… Hush from her studio in the Bo-Kaap in 1998. Flashback followed at Joao Ferreira Gallery in 2001. Her third, acclaimed solo exhibition, Post Tokyo was held at the UCT Irma Stern Museum in 2004. Her following two solos; Sacred Yin in 2005 and Sacred Yang in 2007 were shown at Michael Stevenson. Her last two solos Muse in 2011and Fumbling Towards Ecstasy in 2013 were hosted by The Barnard Gallery.
Her work is represented in many private and public collections.
Payne is presently working towards her 9th solo exhibition.
