Born in Stellenbosch 1967 Matriculated from Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, Stellenbosch in 1985.
Received B.A. Fine Arts degree from University of Stellenbosch in 1992.
Live and work in Kleinmond since 2000.
I enjoyed my first real experience of working in clay when working at the Whale Coast Pottery in Kleinmond, today called Corinne de Haas Pottery.
After working at the pottery, I started painting very realistic portraits in oil of the people living in the black township “Overhills” in Kleinmond, I studied Xhosa and found the visits to the township very special. Here I took photographs from which I painted. These paintings were exhibited in Hermanus from where it sold internationally. I also had a solo exhibition at Arrabella in 2002.
My daughter, Gabriella was born in 2003. The greatest gift to my life!
In 2006 I had an exhibition of clay sculptures at Harbour Road Gallery, Kleinmond.
For years I kept painting, sculpting and teaching art except for one year that I was an equestrian trail guide.
From 2014 to 2016 I had a studio/gallery in Harbour Road Kleinmond. During this time, I created life size clay sculptures that had to be fired in segments.
Since 2022 I have been working on smaller, more abstract clay sculptures, all woman. (mostly 50cm in height) I moved away from painting because I find the creation process of the clay sculptures more direct, freer and more authentic.
My drive as an artist is to hopefully spread Beauty and Fun. |
