"I was born in Scotland where I lived on a farm so I have always had a love for the country and animals. I am a self-taught artist. As long as I can remember I have been interested in drawing. In the final three years of high school I was always awarded the art prize.

I lived in Rhodesia (as it was known then) for 16 years and whilst there, three friends and I held an art exhibition. We each exhibited 10 paintings and by the end of the opening night I had managed to sell 6 of mine. A lady who attended the exhibition (Mary Bloom – accredited for writing the Lyrics for the Rhodesian National Anthem) told me that when she looked at my paintings of the bush she could actually feel the dryness on her skin. I regard that comment as a very high compliment.

I have participated in numerous exhibitions throughout South Africa, where many of my paintings were sold to tourists from America, England, Scotland and Namibia.

Whilst my first passion is painting wildlife and nature, I enjoy painting other subjects and working in most mediums. I find my inspiration from photos taken by myself and friends (such as wild life, landscapes, etc…), inspirational people (such as Madiba) and famous people (Marilyn Monroe)." - Catriona Parker
