Jeremy Ackerman was exposed to art as a subject at school. He later studied architectural draughtsmanship, though he did not complete his course.
As a self-taught artist and musician, music is a major influence and often informs his subject matter. Jeremy is inspired and influenced by the work of Pablo Picasso and South African masters, Irma Stern and Alexis Preller.
Having lived in Transkei for about 30 years, Jeremy has developed an appreciation for the various cultures, traditions and heritages found in South Africa and for the spiritual beliefs and values of its people.
Jeremy expresses concern for current social issues and seeks to project a message of hope, challenging negative mind sets.
He has collaborated with artists from Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and the Congo, as well as a few local artists.
In the artist’s own words:
“I’m on this journey, discovering truth and grace, embracing purpose and passion, exposing the fine arts rooted within myself, sharing a unique culture of Africa Praise, worshiping through music, positioning my art in a deeply emotional genre.” – Jeremia Ackerman
